Stories from Brooklyn

This is the window the roof cats visit. My desk is just to the right of this window, and most nights while everything is quiet and I'm sitting at my desk, one of the two roof cats will suddenly appear at this window and push their way through the bars, meowing at me. Most of the time I jump, forgetting that the cats in Brooklyn wander the roofs at night, and I look at them and say hello. They want more than that -- they push their heads into the screen, trying to squeeze themselves into my quiet space. When I look away, they meow more urgently, then eventually give up and wander to another rooftop, another window.
